The article “An Internet Jihad Aims at U.S. Viewer” by Michale Moss and Souad Mekhennet in The New York Times was a real eye opener for some people ,but for me however I know it was just a matter of time. The Internet has brought the world together in so many that when you say ‘Its a small world”; it really has become that. Moreover, people can truly talk to the world, and this young man is. Though he lives in the United States his belief are those Islam. I don’t agree with his view’s and what he is teaching on his web-page, however I do commend him for getting his words out there. In a time of hide behind closed doors and hate the person that you don’t know ,and is not like you. This young man is willing to saying this is who I am, and this is what I believe. Our nation has for years has said ” we are a milting pot” just as long as you are like us. Furthermore ,if you are not like us we will see you as a threat and then we have to destroy you. Well it was bound to happen a nation has become tired of that rhetoric ,and is now fighting back through its young on the Internet. This is a step forward however painful it might be if you are read his web page you must be talk about it too. This is how we learn ,when people talk to each other you learn about each other ,and that is a good thing. We can’t say that the Internet is is only for those things that we like. I say to you “No” it is to broaden our minds and to go outside of ourselves. Furthermore ,though these first steps are painful I believe they will help us to moving forward as a nation, because if we stay on the path that we are on now it is the path to destruction.
What Ever Happened to Free speach October 22, 2007
In an article by Brian Stelter in the New York Times called “Student Editor Keeps His Job, But Is Warned About Ethics”. The article is questioning the rights of the editor of a college paper went to far when he put a four letter word in front of President Bushes name. Isn’t ironic that with this present we are not to question anything he does or says. Yet he has caused this country so more problums then the last two presidents combined. The article goes on to say that this young man almost lost his job as editor -in- chief. Why is it that now the first Amendment means you can’t talk about the precedent. I believe in the First Amendment and to me it is important so that I can say what I and you can disagree or agree with me but we can have a discussion. That is what it really means to have this right. We are to talk to each-other and not hide behind our fears. However, that is just what we are doing when we are willing to fired a young man, because he is trying to get people to talk to each other, as a nation we talk out of both sides of our month, this is one of many reason that I see as a roadblock to progress. You don’t have to love or even like that person but we all need to find a way to understand each-other. It is sad to me that well still are fighting this fight, and that this nation is still just a child pretending to be a grown-up. Until we recognize this there will be growth.
Take a Walk in Your Father Shoes October 22, 2007
When David Michaelis ,a writer, got in touch with the family of Charles M. Schulz and told them he wanted to write their fathers biography they were ecstatic but, little did he know that they would turn on him when he wrote the truth. Patricia Cohen a writer for The New York Times wrote “Biography of Peanuts Creator Stirs Family” I know I had to read it. I Love Charlie Brown. However what I found was a family walking around with selective memories. We all do this at one time or another ,but in this case the feeling is very sad. There father, while alive, had gone on T.V. and talked about how he wakes up everyday with a feeling of impending doom. Between having a bad childhood, and then a very bad first marriages this man was on. Furthermore, he never tried to hide how he was feeling because when close friends and some family members where interviewed they said he had a melancholy attitude. When asked why charlie Brown never got to kick the football he said “Happiness is not funny”and “his anxieties and fears brought him Lucy and the characters in ‘Peanuts’ ”. His family should stop right now with their argument of selective observation. Yes , they loved him very much. However, they were not with him 24/7/360 day a year. Besides, your father said “A normal person couldn’t have done it”. I say to the family especially the children to walk a mile or two in their fathers shoes. They may find what they were not willing to see as a child.
Rock On October 22, 2007
There are those people out in the world that mo matter how old they get you will always love who they are and what they do. For some of us lucky few we are married to that person. However, their are those famous people that we would like to meet. Debbie Harry is that person for me. In an article “Still Punk, Still Proud, Still Breaking the Rules” by Melena Ryzik in the New York Times gave me the feeling I had the first time I say Blondie. Melena Ryzik, picks up on the personal charm of Ms. Harry. The article starts of by telling us about how she was a rule breaker, but for love. Them she ask he if she still breaks the rules and in Blondie fashion she replies “I guess I am. I just don’t notice anymore”. Ms. Harry,at age 62 years old, can still get under your skin. I love how Melena was able to get in touch with Ms. Debbie Harry demeanour and put it on paper. The article is socked with a kind of lay back sex appeal that has always been Debbie Harry’s style.
Come Here said the spider to the fly October 12, 2007
In the New York Times on Monday October 8, 2007 called “Nothing Says ‘Buy Like Free Shipping” by Bob Tedeschi was very in lighting. I learned that web sites are just that webs. They are the spider and we are the flies. They make beautiful webs that draw us in and then they got ya. However, lately their webs haven’t been catching as many flies as they would like. Hence the new shipping for free. L.L. Bean is leading the way with its free shipping, but is it really. The web has some fine pint “shoppers will not get free shipping on beds, couches, canoes and other heavy items” and just like the flies we are we will race to them this holiday season(Tedeschi 1). Now other flies are following suit but not at the lengths of L.L. Bean. They are lowering shipping or still holding on to the minimum purchase. From one fly to another will we ever learn? This is bat for us. It is bad enough that Christmas stuff will be coming out soon, which is right after Halloween, and we will be on our mad hunt for the prefect gift for everyone we know. However I’m tried, of being memorized by the free. We hear that word and we fly as fast as out wing will take us. Then we buy too much and go into debt because we spent too much on… Fellow flies this year take you time when it comes to buying stuff this holiday season. Be that one smart fly, which got away, you will live longer.
Who said you could be mean October 12, 2007
Well I am new to this bloging thing but why are there so many haters out there? I mean really do you have to be a poison that is pulsing there the vain of others? Yes, you don’t have to agree with everyone beliefs, however you should recognize that you all have one thing in common and that is we are all trying to reach out to others. With this in mind your comments should be more constructive. I see quit a few of you are out there to make fun of and/or to hurt that person, who you most likely have never met, with as many mean and spiteful words as you can. It is like you get off on it. Have you never heard of the old saying ” treat other as you want to be treated”. Well shorty they were talking to you! I mean really did everyone take a hater pills or what. Go to the doctor and get your medication changed. If you hate it will only comes back to you. So instead of spending contemn for your fellow man or woman why not spread some amorousness. It will go a long way and you will get some in return.
what was he thinking October 11, 2007
I juat got done reading “Generation Q” by Thomas L. Friedman in the New Your Times and I have to ask myself “What are You Thinking”. He talks about how this geeration has an idealistc and optimistic approach to life and aren’t engaged enought for him in politicalics. Well I say mabe if he would open up his eyes and see that it is his gereration that is living with the blinders on their eyes. He makes this broad assumption from just visiting four colleges in one part of the country. Please someone tell me how a man with a college education can say this. Did he an investigation any colleges on the west coast and the midwest. Did he send out a survey to the young adults at the colleges he talks about: Ole Miss, Williams, Brandeis. No, he would rather say “these twentysomethings need a jolt”. If he would stop and look he might see that they are actually doing the same if not more than he. Yes, there were a lot of sit in and marches during the time he was in school, but things have changed and the last marches did notheing but give a lot of people a day off from work. No, what thewe people are doing is new and that is lets go out there and flood the wourld with our presents. Now think about this for a momment. If in any country around the wourld had young american’s that are teaching them, working with them and learning about the country they are living in at the time. Well I feel that that would have a bigger impact on them. You might say that was going on befor and still is I would say yes,the peace core, but now we have that and many others like it trying to learn and teach by example. This is a better way than all the marches put together. We have to improve our image and what better way thn to got to sead country for awhile… This generation Q has the right thought and that is all the talk in the world doesn’t help if you are not willing to put action behind it.
I’m a member of the Colbert nation October 8, 2007
Stephen Colbert is a supper star in his own world and we are just there to enjoy the show. I don’t watch TV much but I try not to miss any of his shows, and now with his new book “I Am America”. In the artical “It may Be a Book, but You Can Go Ahead and Read It” by Janet Maslin doesn’t understand the man behind the book. I feel that if she had ever watch the Television show she would enjoy the the undertones of his houmor. Stephen Colbert is know for his use of poetic language with a hint of prestigious jargon. For example, when he says “a mom married to a pop and raising 2.3 rambunctious scamps”. Steven Colbert is a man who is trying to get us to see that witch most of america have stop looking at, and that is ourselfs.
